Taiwan Packing List

Packing for Taiwan can be somewhat tricky — sometimes you overpack “too many just in case,” and other times you realize you’ve forgotten something essential. 😅

That’s why I created this seasonal packing guide to help you figure out exactly what to bring depending on when you’re visiting Taiwan.

So far, I’ve got Fall and Winter covered — but don’t worry, I’ll be adding spring and summer soon!

In this post, you’ll find everything from weather breakdowns to detailed packing lists
— plus, a few things you definitely don’t need to bring (learn from my mistakes!).

Taiwan weather overview

Fall: October – December

There isn’t a real “fall” in Taiwan — the heat from summer tends to stick around well into November (thanks, global warming 😅). It finally starts to feel pleasant by mid to late November when the humidity drops a bit.

Winter: December – March

Taiwan’s winter is mild but damp, with January being the coldest month. It’s sweater weather, but the humidity can make it feel colder than it looks on paper.

  • Northern Taiwan

Cooler and wetter. You’ll want layers and maybe a waterproof jacket.

  • Mountain Areas

Chilly, especially in the mornings. Pack a coat if you’re planning to hike.

  • Southern Taiwan

Warm and sunny, closer to 70s°F (21°C). A light jacket is often enough.

Spring: March – May

A lovely time to visit! Expect warm days, occasional showers, and blooming flowers everywhere.

Summer: June – September

The longest (and honestly… the toughest) season in Taiwan. It’s hot, humid, and sticky — you’ll probably shower two or three times a day. Pack light, breathable clothes, and lots of patience in this heat. 😅

packing essentials

💊 MEDS

☐ Mosquito spray If you tend to get bitten by mosquitoes like I do, I recommend bringing mosquito spray with you. If you forget to pack your own, don't worry! You can easily buy some at any convenience store in Taiwan, such as 7-Eleven or Family Mart.

☐ Painkillers

☐ Prescription medicine

☐ Tampons or menstrual cup

💡 TIP

Use a luggage scale to avoid overweight fees or checking in your luggage.

🧼 TOILETRIES (travel-sized, always!)

☐ Toothbrush, toothpaste, floss — keep this in your personal bag if you’re on a long-haul flight so you can brush your teeth before you sleep or wake up

☐ Shampoo, conditioner, body wash

☐ Face wash, face moisturizer + reef-safe sunscreen

☐ Deodorant

☐ Hair products (anti-frizz, hair oils, hair styling cream, etc.)

☐ Tweezers, nail clipper, nail filer, razor

☐ Contact lenses or glasses

☐ Earplugs, chapstick, hand sanitizer, or sanitizing wipes

☐ Makeup — I recommend bringing lighter makeup for the hot weather in Taiwan, especially if you’re traveling in early October. Consider using BB cream or a skin tint with sunscreen. You can also find tons of cute makeup options at Watson or Cosmed in Taiwan if you don’t have anything on ya.

Noise-canceling headphones, travel gadgets, comfortable travel, productivity on the go, high-quality audio, travel essentials

📱 TECH

☐ Adapter for A/B sockets

☐ Drones — Regulated. View the regulations guide here.

☐ Powerbank

☐ Phone + phone charger

☐ Optional: Laptop + laptop charger, iPad + iPad charger, Camera + film or memory card

☐ Headphones (optional)

Passport, travel documents, visa, travel insurance, essential travel items, border contro

🧾 TRAVEL DOCUMENTS

☐ Passport + copy of your travel documents

☐ International driving permit — Required for driving in Taiwan, especially if you plan to rent a car or scooter.

☐ Wallet and cash — Cash is still commonly used in Taiwan. You can exchange currency at local banks or ATMs, including those at 711.

Travel insurance (optional)

☐ Tissue paper or small toilet paper Not all public restrooms in Taiwan have toilet paper, especially at night markets and concerts.

fall packing list

Before you start packing, consider reviewing your itinerary.

Are you planning to explore bustling cities, hike in the mountains, or relax on the beach? Adjust this packing list to suit your needs for what to wear in Taiwan during the fall.

👕 CLOTHING

☐ Comfortable walking shoes You will be walking a lot in Taiwan, so bring along comfortable and cute walking shoes. Two pairs should be the maximum. Packing more will lead to overpacking, as I learned from experience. 😅

☐ Lightweight jacket — windproof or waterproof jackets, cardigans, or even sweaters. Evenings can get chilly, especially in the mountains.

☐ Long-sleeved shirt (optional)

☐ Short-sleeved shirts

☐ Casual bottoms

☐ Comfortable underwear and socks

☐ Casual dress or outfit

💡 TIP

While Taiwan is becoming more relaxed, it's still somewhat a conservative country. Avoid overly revealing clothing and dress modestly.
Crop tops are fine; make sure you're well-covered, especially at temples, as you will get a lot of quiet stares if you show too much skin.

👒 ACCESSORIES

☐ Hat and/or sunglasses

☐ Jewelry

☐ Raincoat or umbrella (optional)

☐ A scarf or light shawl (optional)

☐ Swimsuit (optional)
If you plan on visiting coastal areas, pools, or hot springs.

☐ Belt

☐ Reusable water bottle — Although tap water in Taiwan is generally not considered “safe” to drink, there are many public water fountains throughout the country where you can refill your reusable water bottle.

💡 TIP

Pack items that can be mixed and matched for different outfits so you can carry everything in one luggage.

what not to pack

  • CBD and THC — These substances are illegal in Taiwan. Do not pack anything containing CBD, THC, or other similar compounds.

  • Meat or vegetables — Taiwan has strict regulations on importing food products. Avoid packing meat (like beef jerky, etc.) or vegetables to prevent potential quarantine issues.

  • Vapes — Vaping is now illegal in Taiwan. You may face fines (up to $10,000 TWD) or other penalties if caught vaping.
