Best Places to Stay in Taichung, Taiwan

Taichung is one of those underrated cities visitors often skip — but shouldn’t.

Compared to the busy streets of Taipei, Taichung feels more laid-back yet full of creative energy, cozy cafés, and Taiwan’s best night markets.

I’ll be honest — I didn’t fully explore Taichung until my late 20s when my parents moved here from Kaohsiung, but once I did, I completely got the hype. From design hotels to hidden boutique stays, Taichung has this perfect balance of comfort, culture, and charm that makes you want to slow down a little.

So whether you’re a first-timer, family traveler, or someone chasing that artsy, chill vibe — here’s my personal guide on where to stay in Taichung, from luxury stays to locally-owned gems.

InterContinental Taichung

This semi-new InterContinental is one of Taichung’s most impressive modern builds — I actually watched it rise from the ground when my parents lived just a few blocks away!

Now fully open, it’s a stunning mix of elegant architecture and sleek interiors, with several in-house restaurants (and a dreamy afternoon tea spot). The service is top-tier, and it’s perfectly located right next to the Eslite shopping area — so you’ll never run out of things to do.

HOSHINOYA is a dream. Tucked in the mountains of Guguan, this 5-star hot spring resort is all about slowing down and reconnecting.

I went for a girls’ trip here, and we were obsessed — from the minimalist Japanese-inspired design to the private in-room onsen baths. There are also public hot springs, on-site dining experiences, and even curated activities to fully unwind. Service? Impeccable.
