Kaohsiung wasn’t just another stop on our Taiwan trip — it was the perfect springboard to our next destination, Vietnam! With its own international airport just a 16-minute drive from the resort, we avoided backtracking to Taipei, which made our itinerary way smoother.

But beyond convenience, Kaohsiung holds a special place in my heart.

I lived here for two years (2004 – 2006), and wow — this city has transformed. Sleek, modern skyscrapers, vibrant streets, and energy — it’s a city that’s grown into its own.

After scrolling endlessly for where to stay, TAi Urban Resort caught both my and my partner’s eyes. Modern? Check. Luxurious? Double-check.

Infinity pool, rooftop bar, spa services, and that chic library-inspired lounge? Say less.

📸 The room photos alone had me hooked — stylish, spacious, and absolutely Instagrammable.

In this post, I’ll take you through our full experience — from getting there and checking in, to dining, amenities, and why this luxurious hotel might just be your perfect Kaohsiung stay.

getting there

Modern sculptured artwork centerpiece in the stylish lobby of TAi Urban Resort, Kaohsiung.

Here are some different ways to get there:

MRT

Take the Kaohsiung MRT to R8 Sanduo Shopping District Station and exit at #2. Walk straight until Linsen 4th Road, then turn right. It’s about an 8–10-minute walk.

Taxi

Tell the driver the full address, or simply say “TAI Urban Resort” if they’re local.

Concierge car service

The resort offers car service for a fee depending on where you’re located — call ahead at the number +886 (07) 333-3999 to arrange a pickup.

checking in

Bright and spacious check-in area on the 25th floor of TAi Urban Resort, featuring panoramic city views and sleek decor.

The check-in process at TAI Urban Resort is very different in a unique kind of way.
Spoiler alert: it’s not on the ground floor!

When you first enter the building, you’ll notice a stylish café at the lobby level. Walk straight through the bookshelf-lined entrance, and you’ll find elevators that take you to the 25th floor, where the main check-in area is located.

Once we arrived on the 25th floor, we were greeted by an open, airy space with modern decor, comfy lounge areas, and bookshelves filled with books. The check-in counter is by the window, offering views of the city while you wait.

Have your passport ready (or ID for locals), and note that the hotel requires a deposit for incidentals.

They also provide a handy amenity kit with essentials like a toothbrush and toothpaste in case you forget yours. I didn’t take one because I didn’t need it. You can always politely decline if you don’t need it!

Superior Room overview

Our Superior Room felt like a luxurious apartment studio with thoughtful details at every turn.

Here are some of the standout features within the room:

Elegant Superior Room bathroom with dual sinks, Dyson hairdryer, and wide mirrors at TAi Urban Resort.

Bathroom

If you know me, you know how much I love a great bathroom.

Double sinks, a makeup station, and a Dyson hairdryer with multiple attachments.

The automatic toilet was a high-tech dream with seat warming, self-flushing, and even a bidet feature. Love!

Bed

The bed was sooo big, with fluffy pillows, and still pretty firm but comfy.

Perfect for sinking in after a long day of traveling.

Cozy tatami seating corner with a wide city view, stocked snack basket, and serene vibes in TAi Urban Resort’s Superior Room.

Tatami

I absolutely loved the cozy tatami corner filled with a basket of free snacks!

It’s the perfect spot to sip tea, munch on tasty treats, and enjoy the incredible views.

Chic mini fridge setup featuring a SMEG kettle and Nespresso coffee maker in TAi Urban Resort’s Superior Room.

Mini bar

A SMEG water boiler, Nespresso machine, and a fridge filled with drinks.

Smart tablet by the bed with modern lighting, combining tech and comfort in TAi Urban Resort’s Superior Room.

Tablet

A bedside tablet for alarms, maps, and hotel info.

Alternate angle of TAi Urban Resort’s Superior Room, showcasing clean lines and sophisticated style.

Flat-screen TV

Wow, the flat-screen TV is huge! But sadly, it’s missing all the good streaming apps like Netflix or YouTube — they just have a bunch of random Taiwanese channels with hotel features. Plus, it’s a bit laggy… which is a bummer.

Definitely not the best TV experience!

So, here’s the deal — one of the front door lights wouldn’t turn off when we were heading to bed. We flipped every switch, thinking it was like a night light or something. Eventually, we took the key card out of the slot to shut everything down, which was a total mistake!

Taking the key card out = no electricity.

With no electricity in the middle of the night, we had no AC, and it got super hot! We had to put the key card back in the slot in the middle of the night. So, lesson learned!

RAR BAR + infinity pool

Located on the 24th floor, the RAR BAR sits adjacent to the rooftop infinity pool, offering perfect city views. The bar itself is chic, with an extensive menu of cocktails and snacks.

Gabe ordered a cocktail, and I ordered a hot chamomile tea to end the night.

While we had high hopes for the drink coupons we received at check-in, they were only valid for non-alcoholic drinks. 🥲

While the bar was stylish, the service was… a hit-or-miss.

Stunning rooftop infinity pool with sweeping city views at night at TAi Urban Resort, Kaohsiung.

My favorite highlight, though, was the stunning rooftop pool right outside the bar.

Unfortunately, thanks to a typhoon during our stay, we didn’t get to swim — but the pool looked like the perfect dream spot for swimming and admiring the sunset views.

breakfast buffet

Breakfast is served buffet-style on the 26th floor from 6:30 AM to 10:00 AM.

Delicious breakfast buffet spread at TAi Urban Resort, offering Taiwanese, Japanese, and Western dishes.

The spread was actually pretty impressive, featuring a mix of Taiwanese, Chinese, Japanese, and Western dishes, plus a fancy drink machine that dispenses hot coffee, tea, and milk tea (my favorite!).

Early risers get the best seats by the windows, so I recommend arriving before 8:00 AM to beat the crowds like we did.

During our breakfast, we got to enjoy the rainy city view — thanks again to the typhoon — which still made our breakfast experience somewhat like a cozier experience.

One thing that really bugged me was the fruit flies! Being in the humid Southern part of Taiwan, they seem to swarm whenever there’s fruit around. At TAi Urban Resort, they were everywhere! I even had a fruit fly fall into my drink while I was making milk tea. I fished it out and still drank it, but come on—so annoying!

Heads-up! Fruit flies can be an issue in the dining area, so keep your food and drinks covered.

final thoughts

Melinda and Gabe enjoying the stylish elevator ride at TAi Urban Resort, Kaohsiung.

Overall, I really enjoyed our stay at TAi Urban Resort! Aside from the annoying fruit flies that flew into my milk tea at breakfast, the hotel is incredibly luxurious.

Like in my other posts, I wish we could’ve stayed longer, but when you’re on a tight schedule, you have to fit everything into one short time frame!

I really wanted to swim in the pool, enjoy the spa, and try the hotel restaurants. But being in a new place (for Gabe), we decided to explore the area, even with the typhoon, and didn’t really spend a lot of time at the hotel.

Oh, and if you forget an umbrella, the hotel is super nice and lends you some!

All in all, it’s a great place, and I’d love to go back and try out more of these awesome amenities!

I hope my review was helpful, and I wish you an enjoyable stay. ✨
