【九份 山城逸境】 Something Easy in Jiufen

Ever dreamed of waking up with the view of the clouds and mountains in Jiufen?
At Something Easy, that’s exactly what we experienced — stunning mountain views, quiet mornings, and a cozy space just steps from Jiufen’s iconic streets.
When my partner and I landed in Taiwan, we were both super excited to start exploring the old, enchanting town of Jiufen. What makes this spot even more special is that it’s away from the tourist crowds, yet close enough for us to easily explore on foot.
We stayed in their standard mountain view room, and every moment felt like a peaceful retreat.
In this post, I’ll share why this guesthouse is the perfect base for your Jiufen adventure, as well as how to book it before it fills up.
Getting There
Getting to Jiufen takes work, but it doesn’t have to be hard.
Here are two options:
BUDGET-FRIENDLY OPTION
Public transportation from Taipei City to Jiufen takes about 2 hours.
You'll need to take a train, transfer to another train, and then take a bus. After the bus, you’ll have to walk to Jiufen and arrive at Something Easy.TIME-SAVING OPTION
To save time, I recommend getting a private driver to pick you up at the airport or the hotel in Taipei (which is what we did when we landed at Taoyuan Airport.)
The total time from Taoyuan Airport to Jiufen was about an hour and 10 minutes. Once you get to Jiufen by car, walk to Something Easy!
Pack light!
Since cars can't drive through Jiufen's narrow streets, your driver will drop you off at a nearby parking lot or street. From there, you'll need to carry your luggage up the hill or upstairs. Stick to a carry-on and personal bag for ease.
Checking In
Since we arrived in Jiufen quite early in the morning, around 9:30 AM, and our check-in time was at 3:00 PM, I recommend booking your hotel a day in advance.
This way, you can check in on the day you arrive and avoid the wait, allowing you to relax at the hotel.
However, if you’re like us and didn’t plan to book your room a day early, you can still manage. You can head to their check-in area, which is separate from the inn, ring the doorbell, and communicate with the staff through the Ring doorbell.
Book your room for the day before your arrival if you want immediate access to relax after your long flight journey.
A lady who worked there came to assist us early, but unfortunately, the room wasn’t ready yet since it needed cleaning. Thankfully, we could drop off our luggage in their storage area, and we didn’t have to check in in person! This setup was quite different from a typical hotel experience; it felt more like a stay in a small business inn.
I also recommend downloading the app LINE, which Taiwanese people commonly use. The lady suggested that we add her on LINE, and she would message us when the room was ready.
We were super surprised to check into our room before 3 p.m., which was a nice bonus. I later read online that if you wish to check in earlier, you should notify them in advance.
When your room is ready, the lady will greet you at a designated meeting spot. Once you meet up, she will guide you to your accommodation, which is located separately from the check-in area.
In our case, the spot was down a staircase. Many tourists mistakenly think this area is a tourist attraction, but it’s actually where the inn is located!
Each inn is situated in a different location, making it quite different from a hotel where everything is centralized — it’s more like a mini house, ya know?
When we arrived at our stay, the lady kindly walked us through everything.
She showed us the bathroom, mini bar area, and snack table (which had complimentary snacks!! *happy dance*). She also pointed out where the room instruction cards were, explained the instructions in case we forgot anything, where we should drop off our key card when checking out, and demonstrated how to use the tea kettle and coffee Nespresso machine.
Overall, it was a perfectly thorough introduction to our stay!
Signature Double Room
We loved our stay at Something Easy, particularly in the Signature Double Room, which featured a bathtub and a stunning sea view. The room was incredibly comfortable.
Although it felt small, it didn't seem cramped at all. There was a cozy tearoom area with a TV, perfect for enjoying midnight snacks.
The room's design was minimalist and modern, yet harmonized beautifully with Jiufen's old-world charm. The location was amazing; you had to go down the stone steps, and being situated below the other inn meant we didn't hear any noise — thanks to the soundproof windows.
The views, btw, were stunning!
Additionally, the amenities in the room were fantastic. We had free snacks and water displayed in the room, and the mini fridge was stocked with complimentary drinks, except for the local beer, which had a price listed in front of it. If we wanted a beer, we just needed to leave the money in the brown storage box on top of the mini-fridge.
Different types of slippers were provided in the room based on their intended use.
When entering, we must take off our shoes outside and wear the indoor slippers provided inside. We can either bring our outdoor shoes indoors and store them in the shoe cubby by the snack bar or leave them outside.
In the bathroom, there are bathroom slippers to switch to when the floor is wet to avoid soaking our bedroom slippers.
There were also outdoor slippers if we wanted to relax on the balcony and enjoy the view.
I absolutely loved the bed — it was one of my favorite beds during my time in Taiwan. The pillow was incredibly comfortable as well. I just wished I didn’t have jet lag; otherwise, I would have enjoyed it even more!
Even though the room was small, it felt extremely spacious.
However, the ceiling was a bit low, so tall people should be cautious to avoid bumping their heads on the beams supporting the roof.
