【功夫上海手工魚丸】Shanghai Kung Fu Noodles in Taichung, Taiwan
One of my favorite noodle places in Taichung is Shanghai Kung Fu Noodles.
(功夫上海手工魚丸)
The business doesn’t really have an official English name, but the owner’s Facebook page has “Kung Fu Noodles” in the URL. I added “Shanghai” to the name since the Chinese translates to “Kung Fu Shanghai Handmade Fish Balls.” I figured a good English name that fits would be “Shanghai Kung Fu Noodles.” It ties in nicely with the Facebook page and matches the logo on the front of the noodle stand.
Shanghai Kung Fu Noodles has a vintage noodle booth at the front, reminiscent of the traditional noodle booths my mom visited during her childhood. Dining here is more than just enjoying a meal; it's a nostalgic experience that takes her down memory lane.
This place is well-known among locals and was recommended by my mom, who frequently visits with my dad for a quick bite. When my partner and I were in Taichung, she wanted to take us there to share how she experienced noodles as a child, and I'm so glad she did.
It felt like a journey back in time, providing a unique dining experience to share with loved ones. Now, I want to support Shanghai Kung Fu Noodles because the experience and the food were incredibly amazing.
the vibe
Tucked away in the corner of Zhongmei Street, you'll find Shanghai Kung Fu Noodles' vintage wooden stand, where the owner crafts each dish with precision.
There is both indoor and outdoor dining.
The smell of freshly cooked dishes lures you closer to his stand with seats out in front, offering a front-row seat to the culinary artistry.
I highly recommend sitting outside to experience this unique dining experience.
I felt like I traveled back in time and got to experience eating noodles the old-fashioned way.
food highlights
Prepare yourself because you will be BLOWN away. Each dish we ordered was incredible!
Here's a glimpse of what we had:
【上海蔥油拌面 + 功夫魯蛋】
Shanghai Scallion Noodles with Kung Fu Eggs
【季節時蔬】
Seasonal Vegetables
The broth infused the noodles with perfection, while the Lu Dan (魯蛋) added a soft and flavorful touch. It's a perfect pairing with the noodles!
Lu Dan (魯蛋, also known as 滷蛋) is similar to tea eggs and is marinated in a sauce, resulting in a flavorful egg with a soft and tasty inside.
These veggies are a must when enjoying noodles, as they vary with the season, ensuring freshness. Pair them with your noodles for some delicious greens!
【<辣>老麻抄手】
<Spicy> Lao Ma Chao Shou
My partner’s spicy pick delivered the perfect amount of HEAT.
Highly recommended for spice enthusiasts and wonton lovers!
【功夫白豆干】
Kung Fu White Tofu
Wowwww! This was definitely very refreshing for the palate and perfect for when the weather’s hot. Lightly glazed with sesame oil sauce, this dish provided a perfect balance, especially with the <Spicy> Lao Ma Chao Shou(<辣>老麻抄手).
