We rolled into Jiufen starving — if you know that travel-day hunger that hits after you’ve just dropped your bags? Our stay at Something Easy was cute and peaceful, but breakfast wasn’t included. Most teahouses in Jiufen focus on traditional tea sets and light snacks, so we needed real food.
That’s when my partner found Twilight Café, tucked high in the misty Jiufen hills. A real breakfast café with views? Yes, please. Also, spoiler alert: it was worth every uphill step.
If you’re planning a trip to Jiufen, this guide breaks down everything you need to know about Twilight Café — how to get there, what to order, and whether it’s worth squeezing into your Taiwan itinerary (which it is).
about Twilight Café
Twilight Café is a hidden yet cozy mountaintop cafe known for its upstairs seating views, peaceful vibes, delicious food menu, and aesthetic drinks.
Unlike the traditional teahouses that only serve tea and light tea snack pairings, Twilight Café offers coffee, brunch-style dishes, and the kind of ambiance you’d want to sit in for hours.
Getting there?
Let’s just say… Google Maps had us zigzagging through alleyways, walking up and down the mossy staircases, and circling around more corners than I can count.
But once you find it, you’ve found it.
✨ It’s quiet, it’s aesthetic, and it’s still under the radar — aka not swarming with tourists lol.
how to get to Twilight Café
Getting to this hidden gem depends on where you’re starting your day:
If you’re already in Jiufen
Walk uphill toward the mountain paths (yes, there’s going to be a bit of a hike). I recommend walking along the street instead of weaving through the old neighborhood. When you’re up the top, look for an old staircase that trails down — Google Maps isn’t super accurate in older towns like this, so expect to wander around a bit.
If you get lost, you can also ask locals for some help on getting there.
💡 TIP
Save the location ahead of time in Google Maps offline mode to avoid getting lost.
🚆 Coming from Taipei?
TRAIN + BUS
Take the MRT to Zhongxiao Fuxing, then hop on the 1062 bus which is a direct option to Jiufen. This takes about 2 hrs-ish depending on traffic, but the most cheapest option to get to Jiufen.
Once you arrive, it’s a 10–15 minute uphill walk.
JIUFEN OLD STREET EXPRESS BUS
Skip the painful transfers and book your express bus ticket here. This is a one-way ride straight to Jiufen. From there, it’s a short walk up the hill to Twilight Café.
PRIVATE DRIVER
For a comfortable, private, English-speaking driver and customizable stops, you can book a private driver with Daytrip who’ll pick you up and drop you off at your hotel — no public transit required.
PRIVATE DAY TOUR
You can visit Jiufen, Yehliu Geopark, and Pingxi in one day with a private guide. With that being said, you can also request to add Twilight Café to your Jiufen itinerary! Book your private Jiufen tour here.
the vibe inside Twilight Café
Walking into Twilight Café feels like stumbling into someone’s modern mountain greenhouse — with better coffee and food. There are two floors:
Downstairs
Tons of cozy seating with wooden tables and earthy decor.
Upstairs
A tiny bar area with a few seats (5 total) and jaw-dropping views when the skies clear!
The stairs are steep and narrow, so watch your step.
We sat upstairs even in the rain, and honestly? It was a whole vibe — foggy mountains, iced drinks, and that soft patter of rain against the ground was so dreamy and romantic.
