Taipei 101 is more than just a skyscraper; it's a symbol of Taiwan's modern development.
This iconic building is loved by locals and admired by travelers from around the world, offering breathtaking panoramic views from its 101 floors.
I will go through a brief history of this architectural masterpiece, discuss your ticket options for reaching its impressive heights, and give an overview of what to do inside Taipei 101. Additionally, I’ll also recommend local dining spots and accommodations around the area to elevate your experience in Taipei!
get to know Taipei 101
On December 31, 2004, Taipei 101 was unveiled to the public with a grand New Year's celebration, featuring a stunning fireworks display.
It was the world’s tallest building until the Burj Khalifa in Dubai surpassed it and became the tallest in 2010.
Taipei 101 is not just tall; it also has amazing technology inside. It features the world's fastest elevator, which transports people from the 5th to the 89th floor in just 37 seconds. Imagine how exciting it is to go up so fast! You don’t even feel the speed!
In 2011, Taipei 101 received a Platinum Certificate for its energy-efficient operations and environmental friendliness.
This made this admirable landmark a top-notch building and the world's largest and tallest green building.
The brilliant architects C.Y. Lee and C.P. Wang, combined traditional Asian style with modern design in Taipei 101. Their creation not only looks beautiful but also includes features to make sure it stays strong and sturdy during earthquakes and tropical storms like typhoons.
getting there
BUS
Ride the bus and get off at the Taipei 101 stop.
Use a YouBike to bike over to Taipei 101. There's a docking station right across the street from Taipei 101 where you can park your YouBike.
For a safe and cheap travel option, take the MRT. It's fast, reliable, and will take you directly to Taipei 101 at the Taipei 101 stop.
CAR
If you prefer driving, you can navigate to Taipei 101. There’s a paid parking garage located from B2 to B4, but availability is not guaranteed. Alternatively, you can take an Uber or find a yellow taxi on the street.
Taipei 101 tickets
Deciding how to experience the iconic views of Taipei 101 is a super exciting decision. You can purchase tickets in advance or on-site.
If you decide to just purchase your tickets there at the Taipei 101, you’ll have four different options:
89th Floor Observatory
89th + 101st Floor Observatory
101 Skyline 460 Observatory
Taipei 101 Express Pass (which allows you to get in the elevator faster without waiting in line with others)
The basic ticket gives you access to the 89th floor, offering great views of Taipei's skyline. But for the best experience, you'll need to purchase a different ticket for the 101st-floor observation deck.
Just remember, the first elevator ride takes you to the 89th floor, and then you'll need to take another elevator, located through the gift shop, to reach the 101st floor!
For a seamless experience, we purchased our tickets through Klook and got the 89F + 101F Observatory Ticket. One great thing about buying online is being able to show our tickets on our phones and have them printed at the counter, which skips the line for purchasing tickets.
things to do
When you enter Taipei 101, floors B1 to 6 offer a wide range of dining options, luxury shops, and exclusive clubs, making it the perfect destination for food and shopping lovers as well.
Moving up from the 7th to the 84th floor, Taipei 101 serves as a workplace.
Rising to the 85th and 86th floors leads to Sky Dining, offering a variety of unique dining experiences with breathtaking views.
The 88th to 101st floors house the observation deck, the highlight of the Taipei 101 experience. Here, visitors can enjoy gift shops, a deck offering a 360-degree city view, and an outdoor area to take in the breathtaking scenery while enjoying the fresh air.
While these experiences may be a bit pricier, the memories created at Taipei 101 are truly priceless.

final thoughts
My recommendation is to go early!
There’s already a huge crowd of people waiting outside before Taipei 101 was even open.
Make sure you get your tickets online before you visit for a seamless experience!
We were there for about 2 hours exploring the 101st floor first and then went to the 89th floor.
My advice is to visit and take pictures on the 89th floor first. Then head to the 101st floor because not everyone buys the 101st floor tickets. We missed out on some really good photo opportunities because there were so many people on the 89th floor!
I hope you have fun!
