If you’re looking to treat yourself in Taipei, Shangri-La Far Eastern is one of the city’s top luxury hotels — and it absolutely delivers. With 420 rooms and suites, a rooftop pool, and sky-high dining views, it’s perfect for a splurge-worthy stay.
My partner and I stayed in the Premier King Room, which gave us an epic view of Taipei 101 (seriously jaw-dropping at night 🌆). The hotel’s style draws from both Eastern and Western influences, with elegant touches that reminded me of something out of the Song Dynasty.
During our two-day stay, we caught up with my best friend over dinner at Shang Palace and sipped cocktails at Marco Polo Lounge in the evening — all within the hotel. the location
Shangri-La Far Eastern, situated in the Daan District, provides an ideal luxurious getaway from Taipei's busy city life. It's close to cool spots like Daan Forest Park, Taipei 101, and Chiang Kai-Shek Memorial Hall.
Even though it's a bit away from the busy city center, getting around is super easy. You can hop on a bus, grab a yellow taxi, or even use a YouBike (there's a station outside Shangri-La). And if you like walking, the MRT station is just a short walk away, so you can easily get to where you want to go.
check in process
Even though there’s the convenience of online check-in at Shangri-La, our experience didn't quite match our expectations.
We assumed that completing the online check-in process would allow us to use a digital key to unlock our hotel room seamlessly, but we were mistaken.
When we arrived at Shangri-La Far Eastern, Gabriel and I discovered that even though we checked in online, we still needed to visit the front desk to obtain a physical key card and submit our paperwork.
We initially didn’t understand the purpose of online check-in if we still had to go to the front desk.
We later asked the front desk staff why this was the case. They explained that some business travelers prefer to complete check-in on their phones immediately after the plane lands.
This allows them to handle the paperwork digitally, collect the key from the front desk, and go straight to their rooms. After hearing this explanation, we realized that the purpose of the online check-in is better for people traveling for business rather than for leisure.
Premiuer King Room overview
With 420 rooms in their tall building that goes up to the 43rd floor.
Although I can't promise you'll get to choose your floor, we stayed on the 23rd floor, and it offered some amazing city views of Taipei. 🏙️
We stayed in the Premier King Room, which had an incredible view of Taipei City. You can also see Taipei 101 from the room too!
The room is spacious and bright with high ceilings (very important!).
It includes a huge walk-in closet, a bathtub with special bath salts for a luxurious soak, a spacious rain shower with seats for extra comfort, a separate high-tech bidet toilet area with a fogged glass door (which feels awkward and funny), and the highlight of it all — a king-sized bed that offers a stunning view of the famous Taipei 101.

An amazing 12-themed gourmet scene breakfast buffet serving a huge variety of flavors.
Even though the portions may seem small, you will definitely feel full after two plates. I only covered a small part and didn't get to try other dishes because I was too full. 🥲

Shang Palace
Led by Head Chef Liew Chin Fei, an experienced chef from prestigious MICHELIN Cantonese restaurants, Shang Palace offers up some fancy Cantonese cuisine.
It's best to make reservations to dig into these tasty Cantonese dishes.
Marco Polo Lounge
Have some cocktails and experience Taipei’s city views at Marco Polo Lounge. This vibrant lounge is perfect for those looking for a mix of fancy drinks and beautiful scenery.
The lounge becomes more crowded as the night progresses. The drinks are very unique with cute names and are VERY strong.
Bed & breakfast
Enjoy a morning breakfast in your room with an amazing view. Choose from tasty options from their menu and call the main desk on your decision!
This became a special experience for Gabriel and me, especially after being out the past couple of days. We loved it so much that we ended up ordering a ton of food.

Shangri-La offers not just awesome dining and drinking spots, but also an exciting rooftop pool, fitness center, and spa! Sadly, we didn't have much time in Shangri-La, so I couldn't experience their additional amenities.

Shangri-La’s service was beyond top-notch.
From the moment we walked into Shangri-La, it was clear that the staff was dedicated to making each individual’s experience outstanding.
One of my favorite experiences was with one of the staff members from Shangri-La
Although I can't remember her name, she was super friendly and genuinely cared about making our stay enjoyable. Her warmth and attention to detail made a lasting impression on us. It's these little moments of connection that make a stay go from nice to truly unforgettable.
They even cleaned our room making it so nice and tidy 🥹
final thoughts
Our experience at Shangri-La was absolutely incredible! I had a fantastic stay, slept amazing, enjoyed their amenities, and loved our dining experience there.
